Project Submission FAQs
Q: My prototype will not be completed before the submission deadline, what do I do?
A: Projects are judged on 4 criterions, 1. Microsoft Identity Usage & Practices : 30 points , 2. Innovation : 20 points , 3. Real Market Value : 20 points , 4. Completion of prototype: 30 points. Although we clearly call out that prototypes are needed, you should still submit your project with other requirements like Video, Detailed information and description of the project and code repo(even if incomplete). Project with incomplete protype will lose out on criteria 4, but you will be considered for judging criteria.
Q: What modifications will be allowed post submission deadline?
A: Submission Modifications.
1. Draft Submissions: Prior to the end of the Submission Period, you may save draft versions of your submission on Devpost to your portfolio before submitting the submission materials to the Hackathon for evaluation. Once the Submission Period has ended, you may not make any changes or alterations to your submission, but you may continue to update the project in your Devpost portfolio.
2. Modifications After the Submission Period. The Sponsor and Devpost may permit you to modify part of your submission after the Submission Period for the purpose of adding, removing or replacing material that potentially infringes a third party mark or right, discloses personally identifiable information, or is otherwise inappropriate. The modified submission must remain substantively the same as the original submission with the only modification being what the Sponsor and Devpost permits.
Q: Is video required for the submission? If yes, what should I have in the video?
A: Yes, Videos provide clarity for our judges and will also help deliver the right messaging for your project. Flashy videos are not required. Remember that brevity is important. Videos should be 1-3 minutes, not more than 5 minutes, and the closer to 1 minute, the better. It helps to outline your story before you begin. An effective Hackathon project video has these four things.
1. Concise description of what you made.
2. Who is the primary customer for what you made and why will they love it?
3. What problem does it solve? (Don’t spend too much time on this. People will get it.)
4. Demo what you made (explain how it works, identify the technologies you used – but don’t spend TOO much time on just the tech)
To create an effective Hackathon project video, all projects benefit by having a concise outline of its purpose, primary customer, impact, value, and how it works.
Do not use any copyrighted materials. If used, would not be "fair use" under copyright law, and permission from the copyright holders would be needed.
Q: What is Microsoft Identity Usage & Practices criteria, will my project be not considered if I do not use any of the features under Microsoft Identity?
A: It is one of the criteria among others with 30 points allocated to it. If you have not used Microsoft Identity, your project may or may not be disqualified based on the relevance to the competition. If your project has no relevance to the Identity and security Industry, project will be disqualified.
Leverage one or many Identity feature areas like Managed Identity, Verifiable Credentials, Zero Trust for Apps, External identities, Graph APIs, Workload identity federation, Continuous Access Evaluation, MSAL or any feature set under Authentication and Authorization in any framework, language or cloud of your choice. Feel free to use only these features or blend them with your own APIs or any other APIs.
